I think I’m about to become an info-mercial. Please forgive me.

BUT there’s something really amazing about a positive car-buying experience. Granted, we might bring the car home tomorrow and we might find that it’s a total complete piece of crap and we should have just bent over and kept our money, but I don’t think that’s going to happen.

At the same time, if you are a car buyer who is looking for a slick, high pressure sales team that puts the full court press on you the minute you walk into their establishment, well, don’t bother going to Green Eye.

Green Eye AutoGreen Eye is like a bike shop — but for cars. You know how it is when you go to a bike shop, and the people who work there are in their jeans or shorts and tee shirts and they’re laid back and you can easily imagine hanging out at the local pub drinking a beer with them. That’s Green Eye.

But here’s the amazing experience in a nutshell:
We were looking at a car on their lot. We were also looking at a car for sale by a private owner. The private owner lived out of town, and was coming to Eugene on a Saturday, and so we asked Green Eye if they would do a quick inspection on the vehicle.

I KNOW. Right now you’re thinking — “that’s really stupid Adele, you are asking a place that is potentially selling you a car to look at a car that they have no monetary interest in….” — but that’s not really true. We were still looking at a car that they would end up doing the SVO conversion to — so there was some interest in it for them.

So the private owner brings the car in, and Clark, the owner of Green Eye, puts the car on a lift and INVITES me in to the shop to look at him with him — it was like a little automotive educational experience for me (here’s the transmission, here’s the tie-rod ends, here’s the differential, oh, boy, and look at all this rust, and where the car has been bondo’d so we can’t see it….) We then take it for a test drive. We then take the car from Green Eye’s lot and put it on the lift so I can look at it’s underbelly and compare. Do you know how Friggen’ amazing that is?

We went with the Green Eye car… it had no rust on the underbelly, looked great, and, well, now I completely trust these guys… We pick the car up at the end of this week (it had a few things that needed to be worked on…)….

We didn’t have such a great experience with Green Eye, felt like they charged us too much for the VW dasher we bought from them. Immedietly needed the ignition switch changed and the mechanic we took it to after buying it from Green eye told us that the fan had been wired to stay on whenever the car was turned on, which could have started an electrical fire. Now, two months after buying the car, it broke down on us on the freeway and will cost around $1500 to fix it, which we probably won’t do. Didn’t feel like they were super honest with us about the work they did to it or what it needed. I wanted to like them, but am now feeling ripped off!
