I fell in love recently.

I fell in love, and it is wonderful.

With whom? You may ask. Or, if you know me, you may be wondering what the hell has happened to my wife/partner of the past 13 years; you may be wondering what the hell I’m doing as I have a family and a dog and two cats and a house for crimminy-sakes so what do I think I’m doing falling in love.

Silly you — I have fallen in love with a wonderful place — no, a wonderful experience called Park Street Cafe.

Park Street Cafe. I wish they had a working url that I could send you to so that you could read their menu and see pictures of their place, but they don’t. And everytime I go in, I keep forgetting to take my camera.

Park Street Cafe is, well, on Park Street, between 7th and 8th street in Eugene. If you haven’t been there, you should go.

The food is better than good. And great isn’t the right word. It’s the kind of food that you’d make yourself if you either had the time or knew how. It’s the kind of food that is wholesome, good for you, made with good intention, and you can eat eat eat and not ever feel sick.

I went there last week when I was feeling a little sad. On their special’s board was a tuna melt. I thought, no no no, don’t order it, it will be greasy and heavy and you’ll regret it…. but then I heard myself saying, “tuna melt, hibiscus tea, oh, and one of those raw coconut macaroons, please….”

It came to my table, all toasted and crunchy looking. I took a bite and tasted tuna and artichoke hearts and heaven. I ate it all up, no longer feeling sad, drank my refreshing hibiscus tea, and by the time I got to my macaroon, my sadness had dissipated and I was smiling.

So if you go, here’s what you should do: Always order something from their specials board — and if they have the roasted vegies with rice GET THAT. Get an ice tea, it will be good. Squeeze into one of their tables and relax.

Love is sweet.
